Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse would be superb signing for West Ham

West Ham have set their sight on signing James Ward-Prowse from Southampton in the summer as David Moyes looks to bolster his midfield options.

According to a report from Claret and Hugh (11 June), the Hammers have rejected the chance to sign Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, as they are keen to land Ward-Prowse instead.

The 27-year-old would be a cracking signing for the club if the Hammers can get a deal done for him.

West Ham

Ward-Prowse has been a one-club player, having progressed through the youth ranks at the club.

He made his debut when the Saints were in the Championship, but since then he has gradually established himself as a quality Premier League player.

The England midfielder is approaching the peak years of his career, and the last two seasons are testimony to his progress.

He scored 11 goals in all competitions for the club last season, and showed his talent as a class midfielder.

Ward-Prowse is arguably the best free-kick taker in the country at the moment, with Pep Guardiola describing him as “exceptional” on 21 January 2022 [Manchester Evening News].

West Ham

West Ham need to bolster their midfield this summer. Mark Noble has retired and the club need to find a top-class replacement for him.

The long-term futures of Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice are also in doubt, while there is a lack of depth in the midfield region.

Ward-Prowse would be a massive addition. He would bring tremendous quality to the side, and would transform the club completely.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are keeping a close eye on Bayern Munich midfielder.
