Slaven Bilic’s best West Ham moments as ex-Irons boss linked with shock return

Slaven Bilic could be set for a surprise return to the West Ham dugousht.

Graham Potter is coming under pressure at West Ham, with a change of head coach potentially in the pipeline at the London Stadium.

This comes less than a week after West Ham fell to defeat against Tottenham in yet another heavy defeat at home to a London rival.

Now, David Sullivan and Co. could be set to turn their attention to the potential re-appointment of Bilic or even a move for Sean Dyche at West Ham, seven years after his departure from E20.

The Croatian was sacked back in 2017 after a poor run in East London, but there is no getting away from the fact that he left with many fond memories from his spell in charge.

Farewell Upton Park – West Ham 3-2 Manchester United

Bilic may be on his way back to West Ham in the coming days or weeks in what talkSPORT has described as a “shock” return, but he played a key role in one of the best memories of recent years.

The final day of the Boleyn Ground is a point that many Hammers fans view as a turning point for the claret and blue outfit.

There has been a general lack of positivity since the move to the London Stadium, but that certainly wasn’t the case when Winston Reid headed home the winner against Manchester United.

The last ever Premier League match at Upton Park looked to have been going sour when Anthony Martial put the Red Devils 2-1 up with just over 15 minutes to go.

Michail Antonio grabbed an equaliser two minutes later before the New Zealand international powered home a winner to send the historic ground wild.

It is fair to say that this is the crowning moment of Croatian throughout his spell in charge of the claret and blue outfit.

FA Cup Boleyn victory – West Ham 2-1 Liverpool

Another iconic moment from the final year at the Boleyn saw the Hammers pull of a superb victory against Liverpool in the FA Cup round four replay.

It was the final ever game in the historic competition at the iconic ground, and it went just as the home faithful would have wanted.

Yet again, Antonio was on the scoresheet, putting the Irons 1-0 up before Philippe Coutinho levelled things up with a smart free-kick that rolled under the jumping wall.

It stayed this way until the final stages of extra time, until Angelo Ogbonna headed home a typically perfect Dimitri Payet cross to win the tie for West Ham.

The limbs at Upton Park were some of the best seen in East London and ultimately, fans will remember that with Bilic in the dugout.

London derby win – West Ham 1-0 Tottenham

It is fair to say that the first season at the London Stadium didn’t go as the manager would have wanted, especially after such an excellent campaign at the Boleyn.

This saw the Irons be in need of a win late in the season as Spurs travelled to the Olympic Park for the first time since the controversial move.

The Lilywhites were the better side on the day, but that isn’t how history remembers it as Manuel Lanzini smashed home the winner on 65 minutes.

Although this was the beginning of the end for Bilic, there is no getting away from the fact that this result was one of the more iconic moments at the London Stadium.
