Shock Frank Lampard mention is enough to stop West Ham sacking Graham Potter right now

Frank Lampard has been linked with potentially taking over as West Ham manager.

With Graham Potter clinging onto the West Ham job right now, it is little surprise that David Sullivan and Co. are on the lookout for alternative options.

This has seen Slaven Bilic mooted with a West Ham return, alongside a potential swoop for Nuno Espirito Santo after his surprise exit from Nottingham Forest.

With that being said, Coventry City boss Lampard has emerged as a West Ham target, with his prior links to the Hammers clear for all to see.

Despite this, a move for Lampard may no longer be on the table to replace Potter, given what happened when the pair crossed paths at Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard replaced Graham Potter at Chelsea

For now, it appears that Potter has the backing of the West Ham squad, regardless of a hugely frustrating start to the campaign in E20.

This could soon change with a clash coming up against David Moyes and Everton, a game that could represent the end for the Englishman, something which he is used to.

Back in 2023, the 50-year-old was sacked by Chelsea off the back of a 2-0 loss against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa in the Premier League.

This ultimately saw him be replaced by Lampard as an interim boss, but it appears that this didn’t go down well among the Blues’ ranks.

The Telegraph reported on 25 September that Potter had the backing of a large number of Chelsea players when he was ultimately sacked.

This negative impact was felt on the pitch as the ex-England international went on to lose six games in his second spell as head coach at Stamford Bridge.

As a result, Sullivan may look upon this evidence and be wary of bringing Lampard in at the London Stadium right now.

Frank Lampard appointment would represent risk at West Ham

There is no doubt that the ex-midfielder has positive experience as a manager at Premier League and Championship level at this stage of his career.

With that being said, his most recent spell with Chelsea and prior stint at Everton left a lot to be desired from a managerial standpoint.

Frank Lampard struggled at both Everton and Chelsea

Considering the fact that he has already failed to replace Potter effectively, alarm bells have to be ringing over a potential swoop for the Coventry head coach.

West Ham are much better off going for an experienced option in the ilk of Nuno if they are to inevitably move the current regime on from the London Stadium.
