Sam Allardyce makes ludicrous Graham Potter claim amid West Ham sack latest

Graham Potter’s future is in the balance at West Ham after one win in five Premier League games this season.

Hopes weren’t high at the start of the season after a poor transfer window, but the Hammers’ poor form has seen West Ham fans leave the London Stadium in floods twice now.

West Ham were beaten comfortably 2-1 by Crystal Palace, with protests before the game and supporters leaving early again.

Potter’s side have conceded 13 goals in four Premier League games, and former Hammers boss Sam Allardyce has now chimed in with his thoughts on the managerial situation.

Graham Potter let down by West Ham’s recruitment – Sam Allardyce

David Sullivan has come under fire from West Ham fans for multiple failures in the summer transfer window.

The Hammers were slow in signing players, and multiple gaps in the squad have failed to be plugged.

However, the team aren’t blameless for falling short, and Nuno Espirito Santos has been lined up as a potential replacement for Potter.

Allardyce, who managed the Hammers between 2011 and 2015, believes poor recruitment is to blame for the Irons’ shortcomings.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Monday, he said: “One of the big things today is you’re not in charge of recruitment anymore, and that’s one of the downsides of taking up the foreign element. We are just coaches and nothing else.

“It doesn’t matter how much of a good coach you are, whether you are at the top like Pep [Guardiola] or down there like [Potter] is.

“You’re only as good as the players on the pitch. The recruitment has let him down but you have to roll your sleeves up and change who you are to manufacture a result.”

Sam Allardyce all wrong in his assessment of Graham Potter

West Ham’s poor recruitment has definitely contributed to their poor campaign so far.

However, their poor showings have been down to Potter, with the squad far better than what they have showed so far.

Therefore, Allardyce is badly wrong in his assessment of the Hammers.

The likes of Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen are players worthy of playing in the top six of the Premier League.

It is criminal that West Ham have already managed to concede seven goals from corners, when they have an experienced duo of Max Kilman and Konstantinos Mavropanos at the back.

These players aren’t new to playing top-flight football, and despite not being the best, they are more than capable of guiding the Hammers to a mid-table finish.

Therefore, if Sullivan is looking to avoid relegation, he should sack Potter and bring in a manager who knows how to get teams out of trouble.
