Paqueta days could be numbered at West Ham after transfer news today
Lucas Paqueta could be on his way out at West Ham after the Irons were linked with a move for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles.
Paqueta is a player with bags of ability but his performance in the 5-0 demolition by Liverpool was testament to the lack of influence he has had for the Hammers this season.
Julen Lopetegui was said to be infuriated with the midfielder for his pretty dismal showings so far this season and with Charles linked with a move (Daily Mail, 1 January pg63), his days could be numbered.
Although Paqueta’s best attributes are showcased going forward, Lopetegui has opted to use him in a midfield pairing behind a number 10 which is where Charles has thrived on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.

When it comes to frustrating players, Paqueta is undoubtedly one of the first names that comes to mind and that is both a compliment and an insult at the same time.
He is a remarkable footballer, comfortably one of the best at the club but his lack of application during games is one of the reasons behind the dismal season the Irons have endured so far.
You can tell from his performances that he is just as frustrated as anyone and that was highlighted during an off-the-ball incident against the league leaders where he appeared to lash out against Diogo Jota.
If the Hammers can get him back to his best, he can spearhead their revival but something just doesn’t seem quite right with the Brazillian and it is hard to put a finger on what that is.
While a January exit for him looks unlikely at this stage, the potential addition of Charles could play a role in offloading him.
