Nuno Espirito Santo still has work to do to avoid West Ham sack amid supercomputer prediction

Nuno Espirito Santo could face the sack before the end of the season at West Ham.

Nuno was appointed by West Ham in September and has gone on to have a patchy start to life at the London Stadium.

After West Ham suffered defeat against Leeds United, it felt as if the writing was on the wall already for the Portuguese head coach.

There has been a slight shift in mentality in East London after West Ham secured a 3-2 win over Burnley, a week after their victory against Newcastle United.

This upturn in form may still not be enough to save Nuno’s job this season, with Opta’s supercomputer still unsure about the Irons’ prospects.

West Ham still backed for Premier League relegation

The chances of relegation at West Ham were lessened directly after the claret and blue outfit secured their win against the Clarets on Saturday.

Tomas Soucek and Kyle Walker-Peters helped to secure an all-important three points against what could prove to be a direct rival this campaign.

The result carried the Hammers to 10 points for the season, moving level with Burnley after 11 games played.

This wasn’t enough to carry West Ham out of the bottom three, with Scott Parker’s side maintaining their place above them by two goal difference.

The Opta supercomputer, as per 10 November, predicts that the Irons will avoid relegation, but has handed them a 40.53 per cent chance of facing the drop.

That sizable probability has to be seen as a concern, especially after what has been a difficult start to the campaign already.

Nuno will be looking at this with bated breath as the bigger the chance gets, the more likely he is to face the sack in E20.

David Sullivan and Co. have continued to prove that they have no qualms about sacking an underperforming manager.

Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter have faced the axe recently, and in fairness, they were both deserving of that fate, unfortunately.

Nuno will be given time to show what he can do with this squad in E20, but if things do go south, it would be no surprise if he were shown the door.

It will be interesting to see if the supercomputer prediction comes true and whether that would be enough to satisfy the West Ham board for Nuno.

Just avoiding relegation by the skin of his teeth may prove to be an underachievement, but that may depend on the January transfer spend for the ex-Wolves boss.
