Nuno Espirito Santo cruising towards West Ham sack after what he did vs Aston Villa

Nuno Espirito Santo didn’t cover himself in glory as West Ham lost to Aston Villa on Sunday.

West Ham fell to a 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa despite taking the lead on two separate occasions at the London Stadium.

Mateus Fernandes’ opener was quickly cancelled out as Konstantinos Mavropanos netted an own goal for Villa before Jarrod Bowen made it 2-1.

Morgan Rogers went on to bag a brace and secure victory, as the Hammers threw away a winning position just as West Ham did away to Brighton last time around.

The Villa man’s goal came with 11 minutes plus added time to go, but Nuno failed to do anything to help his side get back level in East London.

West Ham substitutions were terrible vs Aston Villa

West Ham could face relegation from the Premier League this season. That is how serious the current situation is.

To go ahead against a side as good as Villa, the Irons had a chance to pull off a real scalp and potentially move onto level points with Leeds United.

The result clearly didn’t go that way as the home side afforded the Villans two chances to get back into the game.

Unai Emery’s side largely controlled the second half, leaving the Hammers in desperate need of changes from the bench.

The East Londoners couldn’t make many alterations of promise, but the fact that Callum Wilson remained on the bench for 81 minutes is wild.

Nuno then went on to replace Lucas Paqueta, Freddie Potts and Crysencio Summerville with Tomas Soucek, Guido Rodriguez and Mohamadou Kante.

This trio change is objectively bizarre when chasing a game and going in search of a late equaliser.

The Hammers showed no hope of grabbing a third goal, and Nuno really has to take the blame for that.

Nuno could face West Ham sack soon

There have been some positive signs under the ex-Wolves boss, but supporters are getting more frustrated and feel let down.

West Ham continue to look good in spells and arguably deserve a win or draw, but fall to defeat anyway.

That won’t keep the Irons in the Premier League, and ultimately, the blame for that will fall at the feet of Nuno, especially with such dreadful substitutions.

He is choosing not to back the likes of Luis Guilherme, George Earthy and Callum Marshall, preferring to cut off his own nose to spite his face.
