Nuno Espirito Santo could take unwanted West Ham record from Julen Lopetegui as brutal Premier League run approaches

Nuno Espirito Santo was only hired by West Ham at the end of September, but the manager is already under intense pressure.

West Ham lost 2-1 to Leeds United on Friday, with goals from Brenden Aaronson and Joe Rodon sealing the win for the home side.

The loss marked the Hammers’ sixth consecutive Premier League match without victory, with only the equally shocking form of Wolves keeping the Irons off the bottom of the table.

West Ham sacked Graham Potter after a dismal start to the season, but there has been little, if any, improvement under Nuno.

Tim Sherwood warned Nuno that West Ham would not hesitate to sack him, and the former Tottenham boss may well have a point.

West Ham prepare for savage Premier League run

West Ham are ready to back Nuno in the transfer window, but before they can even get there, the Hammers face an extremely difficult run of fixtures.

The visit of Newcastle United is up first, before arguably the Irons’ easiest game from their next eight.

It will be against Burnley, who have won their last two games in the Premier League, but do certainly have weaknesses for Nuno’s team to exploit.

Bournemouth (A)22 Nov

Aston Villa (H)14 Dec
Manchester City (A)20 Dec

After that, a horror run that will see West Ham take on five of the league’s top eight across six games.

A trip to Bournemouth, who currently sit second in the Premier League, is up first, before the Hammers host Liverpool at the London Stadium.

Then, trips to the resurgent Manchester United and 12th-place Brighton, before West Ham take on Aston Villa, who have won their last four Premier League matches.

Lastly, Nuno’s side travel to try their hands against Manchester City and the league’s most in-form striker in Erling Haaland.

Nuno Espirito Santo could make unwanted West Ham history

West Ham will be aware of the situation Nuno inherited when he took over at the London Stadium. The Hammers were already in an awful place, and are in need of far more than just a few tactical tweaks.

But patience will begin to wear thin should the Irons still be without a second Premier League win midway through December.

Decision-makers at the London Stadium cannot risk relegation from the top flight, and will take any means necessary to avoid the financial disaster that would arrive with it.

Julen Lopetegui currently represents the permanent manager to have spent the shortest time in charge of West Ham, the Spaniard being sacked after just 191 days.

Nuno could well give him a run for his money, however, with the trip to Manchester City set to mark the West Ham boss’ 84th day in charge.
