Niclas Fullkrug in fight for West Ham future vs Everton after huge developments

Niclas Fullkrug has had a tough spell at West Ham United so far.

Fullkrug joined West Ham from Dortmund in 2024 for £27million, after scoring for fun in Germany and leading Der BVB to the Champions League final, where they would lose 2-0 to Real Madrid.

However, Fullkrug has struggled so far at the Hammers, scoring just three times since his arrival in East London, and has yet to score this campaign.

West Ham signed Callum Wilson on a free transfer from Newcastle United this summer to challenge Fullkrug, and is currently outperforming him, scoring in a 3-0 victory at Nottingham Forest.

It has been a period of change at the London Stadium, and now Fullkrug has a fight on his hands to secure his own future, starting at Everton.

Niclas Fullkrug set to start in Nuno Espirito Santo’s first West Ham game

Nuno Espirito Santo is the new West Ham manager.

Nuno replaces Graham Potter, who was sacked on the back of a poor start to the season, which culminated in a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace last time out.

The Hammers take on Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday, in what will be Nuno’s first game in charge.

Fullkrug looks set to start for West Ham in Nuno’s first game, with Wilson likely needing to settle for a place on the Hammers bench.

Niclas Fullkrug is on his last chance at West Ham

Fullkrug’s time at the Hammers has been terrible so far, but large parts of that can be attributed to the chaos going on behind the scenes, with both Julen Lopetegui and Potter being sacked during his time in East London.

However, Nuno’s arrival should bring an end to the uncertainty surrounding the manager and the repercussions that follow.

There is no excuse now for the German, who Nuno will likely use as his main goalscoring threat, similar to how Chris Wood was for him at Forest last season.

If Fullkrug fails to buy into the Portuguese manager’s system, it is almost certain that he will be sold before the start of next season, forever to be labelled as a complete flop.
