Mohammed Kudus stars as Alphonse Areola flops – West Ham United player ratings v Brentford

West Ham United suffered a third successive Premier League defeat as they were beaten 3-2 by Brentford on Saturday (4 October).

Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen scored for the Hammers in their clash with the Bees, but Neal Maupay, a Konstantinos Mavropanos own goal and Nathan Collins secured a thrilling 3-2 victory for the hosts.

West Ham Zone rates the Hammers players out of 10 for their performances from the Premier League clash with the Bees at the Gtech Community Stadium.

West Ham

Alphonse Areola – 3

The goalkeeper underperformed in West London, with Areola conceding on three occasions, making just two saves throughout the 90 minutes [Sofascore].

Vladimir Coufal – 5

The right-back was the standout of the Hammers defenders, with the Czech Republic man making three tackles against a tricky Brentford attack.

Konstantinos Mavropanos – 4

The defender has had to be patient for a start in the Premier League, and he won’t want to remember this match in a hurry thanks to his own goal, as well as only registering a 69% passing accuracy.

Nayef Aguerd – 4

Was in charge of keeping Mavropanos right alongside him, but Aguerd will not be too pleased with his display as he completed just 74% of his passes.

Emerson – 4

The left-back was up against it from the very first whistle, but he won’t look back on the game too kindly, with Emerson completing just one of his four long passes.

West Ham

Tomas Soucek – 4

The Czech Republic international will be disappointed with his display in midfield, with Soucek nowhere near his best in West London as he won just one of his 10 duels.

James Ward-Prowse – 5

Arguably one of the summer signing’s worst displays in claret and blue, with Ward-Prowse not accurate with any of his six crosses.

Jarrod Bowen – 7

The winger continued his fine run of scoring form away from home, but he also impressed in other areas, most notably with his two key passes and one big chance created.

Mohammed Kudus – 8 (Man of the Match)

After being eased into life in East London by manager David Moyes, the summer arrival is now flying high. Along with his stunning acrobatic goal, Kudus won eight of his 12 ground duels, made three tackles and registered an 89% passing accuracy.

Said Benrahma – 5

The winger was handed a rare Premier League start amid the absence of the suspended Lucas Paqueta, but it was an opportunity he didn’t take, with Benrahma not completing either of his two dribble attempts.

Michail Antonio – 6

Unlike previous matches this season, the striker was heavily involved in this one from the very start, with one of his two key passes being an assist for Kudus’s superb goal.
