Michail Antonio’s best West Ham moments as he closes in on sensational Premier League return

Michail Antonio looks set to return to the Premier League, just months after leaving West Ham.

West Ham released Antonio at the start of July, after the striker had missed around six months of action with a broken leg.

The 35-year-old crashed his car in December 2024, and by all accounts, was lucky to be alive – let alone play football again.

It has been suggested that West Ham could re-sign Antonio, with the Hammers struggling to score goals this season, but the striker is now looking elsewhere.

Here, West Ham Zone takes a look at the Jamaica international’s best West Ham moments.

Michail Antonio’s Boleyn farewell

Antonio is training with Brentford in the hopes of receiving a contract, but the striker arguably marked his most iconic moment on the other side of London.

West Ham faced Manchester United in what would be the Boleyn Ground‘s final-ever game in 2016.

It was a monumental day, and it was kicked off superbly when Diafra Sakho stroked in the opener for the home side.

But as the game wore on, Manchester United’s quality grew, and the visitors went ahead in the 72nd minute after Anthony Martial had netted his second.

West Ham fans feared their 112-year home would be seen off in losing fashion, but just four minutes later, who else but Antonio would leap highest to head home the equaliser.

Winston Reid would head in the winner after another four minutes, and the rest is history.

Antonio spoils Spurs party

When West Ham travelled to Tottenham in 2019, the home side were enjoying life in the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which had been yet to see anything other than a home win.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side had won all four of their previous four games in the stadium, without even conceding a goal.

West Ham were keen to change that, and that is exactly what they did.

Latching onto a Marko Arnautovic ball, Antonio drove into the Spurs box and smashed past Hugo Lloris, following up with an equally emphatic celebration.

With the home side unable to respond, Antonio’s West Ham would become both the first away team to score at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the first away team to win there.

West Ham history written by Antonio

West Ham’s clash against Leicester City at the London Stadium in 2021 did not have all the hallmarks of an iconic night, but it would become one.

With the Hammers 2-1 up and the visitors’ one man down, Antonio received the ball and spun, before burying it into the bottom corner.

It was a typical Antonio goal, but it was one that marked history for the striker.

With his 48th Premier League goal, the Jamaica international would top the West Ham Premier League scoring charts, surpassing Paolo Di Canio.

He would pick up his 49th on the same night, and 19 more over the next four years, but not many will have felt as special as that.
