Michail Antonio set for West Ham United exit as January transfer update emerges

Michail Antonio has struggled to be the first-choice striker choice that West Ham have been craving this season.

Many fans expected Niclas Fullkrug to be the answer to Julen Lopetegui’s attacking problems, as did technical director Tim Steidten, but his injury setbacks have only seen him become a frustration.

With the German being sidelined since September, the new head coach has had Antonio and Danny Ings to choose from up front, neither of which have been at all persuasive in the final third.

Supporters are now piling the pressure on Steidten ahead of the January transfer window, and he may have already found a solution as a new transfer update emerges away from the London Stadium.

According to TBR Football, the Hammers are one of the teams interested in Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, with the Seagulls already green-lighting a loan exit for the 20-year-old in January.

West Ham United to replace Antonio with Ferguson?

Antonio’s current deal at the London Stadium is set to expire at the end of the season and, as per Takvim [21 November], the striker is already being offered to Turkish club Galatasaray.

West Ham reportedly had the chance to sell Antonio last January [Guilherme Ness], but the player pulled out of talks with Gremio to remain in East London.

David Moyes spoke about how “important” Antonio has been during his time at the London Stadium [Ben Dinnery], but that could finally be coming to an end.

This winter transfer window could be the Hammers’ final chance to receive a transfer fee for the Jamaican international, who has made over 300 appearances for them, and it looks as though the Hammers already planning for that outcome.

While Ferguson has only made one Premier League start this season, there are no doubts over his abilities on the pitch, and many feel he could be the perfect addition to the squad to fix the current striker problems.
