Max Kilman surely set for West Ham exit as Nuno Espirito Santo wants player likened to John Terry
The January transfer window could make or break West Ham’s season and decide whether they can stay in the Premier League.
West Ham were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton on Sunday, after Jarrod Bowen’s strike was cancelled out by Georginio Rutter’s stoppage-time equaliser.
A point at the AMEX Stadium left the Hammers in 18th position, currently two points adrift of safety ahead of a showdown with high-flying Aston Villa.
But since West Ham are still predicted for relegation, even after their recent improved performances, Nuno Espirito Santo has recognised the importance of investing in January.

West Ham are back in for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi
While West Ham capturing a striker is the most important piece of business they can do, their back line also needs bolstering.
As it stands, Nuno has four centre-back options to choose from, including Max Kilman, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Igor Julio and Jean-Clair Todibo.
The Portuguese preferred Mavropanos and Todibo as a duo against Manchester United, while Kilman slotted into a back three alongside the duo in the draw at Brighton.
Though, despite looking more solid at the back, a versatile defensive option is still being targeted, and according to Caught Offside, West Ham and Newcastle United are battling for the signature of Chelsea’s Axel Disasi.
It’s well-documented that West Ham moved to sign Disasi on loan on deadline day, but were concerned about the finances involved in capturing the Frenchman.
Disasi has since been frozen out by Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge and is yet to make a senior appearance in 2025/26, with the 27-year-old potentially moving to the London Stadium.

Max Kilman could drop further down pecking order at West Ham
Some will think that moving for the Chelsea defender is a risk, and of course, that is true. Disasi will lack match sharpness and elite-level fitness after not playing all season.
But due to his versatility – capable of playing as a right-back and in central defence – the former Monaco man could cover for the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kyle Walker-Peters on the right, while challenging Kilman for a spot in the side.
West Ham fans have blasted Kilman regularly for his performances since joining from Wolves in 2024, and the 28-year-old has been demoted to third-choice as a result.
That suggests, Disasi – who has been compared to the legendary John Terry by Jamie Carragher – could offer strong competition and threaten his place in the side.
There has already been talk of Kilman leaving the London Stadium in January, and if Disasi joins the Hammers, speculation over his future will no doubt intensify.
