Match of the Day make horrendous West Ham United error in Lineker’s farewell show

Gary Lineker hosted his final Match of the Day show on Sunday, but it didn’t go without a bizarre moment that caught the eyes of West Ham fans.

The Hammers went into the final day in the hope of securing a positive result to end a largely frustrating season on a positive note.

That is exactly what Graham Potter got as his side picked up a 3-1 win against an already relegated Ipswich Town side.

This gave the Irons fans a rare chance to sit and enjoy their side’s win on Match of the Day, but they were left baffled by an error as Lineker waved goodbye.

Match of the Day in strange West Ham gaffe

With so little on the line at Portman Road, it is little surprise that the East Londoners found themselves second to last on the final show of the year.

This won’t be new to supporters who have regularly witnessed their team sit low in the pecking order, given the dire state of performances at times this campaign.

What will have come as a surprise is that David Moyes featured in the pre-match graphic alongside Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna.

There was no place for Potter in this horrendous error by Match of the Day (26 May) as they utilised an image of the former Hammers boss, nearly 12 months after his departure.

The ironic thing about the picture is that the Scottish manager is wearing an Everton tracksuit as opposed to any West Ham gear.

This was totally bizarre and certainly caught supporters by surprise, as many took to social media to point out the error on what was Lineker’s final show.

West Ham fans baffled by Match of the Day error

It is crazy that an image of Moyes has been used after a year away from the London Stadium and nearly five months at Everton.

Despite it being the last show of the season and the focus being on Lineker, surely there’s going to be plenty of red faces around the BBC about this.

It isn’t the end of the world, and you wouldn’t imagine that Potter will be bothered about this, although it may come across as somewhat disrespectful.
