Manchester United ‘incompetence’ slammed as West Ham United transfer could be off
Mark Goldbridge is furious at Manchester United for potentially risking Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s move to West Ham United – and he may have a point.
In a post on X (4 August), talkSPORT presenter Goldbridge suggested that the Red Devils jeopardised the deal by playing Wan-Bissaka in a pre-season clash with Liverpool.
There are strong suggestions that the full-back may be facing a spell on the sidelines after sustaining an injury late on in the game, which would naturally raise eyebrows from West Ham.
“If Wan Bissaka is injured and can’t be sold that’s just utter incompetence on behalf of everyone,” Goldbridge posted. “Why the hell we took the risk in the first place is pure stupidity”
The Irons are seemingly so close to getting a deal over the finish line for one of their long-term targets (Dharmesh Sheth, 3 August) – so why did Man United play him?
West Ham face Aaron Wan-Bissaka dilemma
There’s no denying the quality of Wan-Bissaka. He’s one of the best slide-tacklers in the game, calm under pressure and willing to bust a gut down the wing when needed. Alas, all of that means very little if he isn’t fit.
As we know, Wan-Bissaka was already in the United States with his club [The Mirror, 2 August]. It’s also no secret that he’s had his fair share of injury problems in the past. Last season, he played just 22 times in the Premier League (FBref).
Julen Lopetegui is a smart man. He knows how good Wan-Bissaka is and he knows what the Englishman could add to this squad.
In equal measure, it doesn’t make any sense for them to spend big on a player if there’s significant risk involved.
There will be questions regarding how Manchester United handled the situation. Still, this does serve as a red flag.
The Hammers are incredibly busy in the market this summer and fans have praised the club for that. However, you’d have to think this has generated some cause for concern.
