Lucas Paqueta ban on cards as West Ham United v Liverpool footage emerges
Lucas Paqueta could face a retrospective ban at West Ham after he was seen seemingly lashing out at Liverpool forward Diogo Jota.
Sunday (29 December) provided even more misery at the London Stadium as the Irons were embarrassed on home soil by Liverpool in a devastating 5-0 defeat but things may get even worse.
Paqueta, who was dire in his performance, seemed to take his frustration out in the second half when Jota was breaking forward for the visitors with an attempted elbow in the back of the forward, which seemingly went unnoticed by officials.
The incident was shared widely on social media late on Sunday.
The coming days will provide an indication as to whether it is an incident that could be looked at by the FA, with a decision from the club on the future of Julen Lopetegui also to be made.
Lucas Paqueta a disgrace for West Ham v Liverpool
Paqueta is certainly a player who has an immense amount of ability, but that just hasn’t been on show this season for the Hammers and there may be several reasons to pin it on.
Lopetegui’s dull, lethargic style of play is certainly a contributor but the Brazilian’s attitude also has to come into question which him often just strolling around the pitch.
His future at the club is already under question and his showing against the league leaders will potentially see many other Irons supporters hop on the bandwagon in favour of his exit.

Given the nature of the season so far, West Ham need leaders and players to step up when it matters and Paqueta simply doesn’t look capable of being that figure, which makes the decision for him to take the captain’s armband after Jarrod Bowen’s departure even worse.
Things need to change for the Hammers urgently, and if the FA look into his actions in the encounter, he could face a ban.
