Lopetegui has flaw to fix in Kudus’ game after what national media said about West Ham United ace

Julen Lopetegui must fix a fundamental flaw in Mohammed Kudus’ game to get the best out of the forward at West Ham United.

The 24-year-old was slammed for his decision-making in the 1-1 draw against Niger on Monday [9 September] by national media outlets in Ghana.

After a hit-and-miss start to life under the new Hammers boss, Lopetegui faces his first real test of his credentials in East London as he must find the solution to get the most out of his Ghanian talisman this season.

Julen Lopetegui needs to find Mohammed Kudus solution at West Ham United

After a summer of frivolous spending at the London Stadium this summer, it seems that Lopetegui is struggling to understand which players fit into his strongest lineup for the Hammers and – most importantly – where.

The Spaniard will have been keeping a close eye on his players throughout the international break, particularly Kudus who has been playing the role behind the striker for Ghana boss Otto Addo. A decision that could be replicated at club level.

Kudus is an expert at navigating tight spaces, his flair and ability to beat his opponent would complement a strong physical presence at the spearhead of the attack.

Michael Antonio has been the preferred choice at striker thus far, however, once Niclas Fullkrug takes his rightful place ahead of the ageing Antonio he could form a deadly partnership with Kudus.

While his versatility will prove useful in helping Lopetegui navigate inevitable injuries throughout the season, the Hammers boss finds the best position for Kudus to thrive in his side and build the team around him.

West Ham are blessed with attacking options with Jarrad Bowen, Lucas Paqueta, and Crysencio Summerville alongside Kudus. But all teams need a focal point in attack and after a return of 18 goals and seven assists in his maiden season in England, it is time to hand the reigns to the Ghanian.

But in order to help him reach his true potential he must fix the flaw of inconsistent decision making.

In other West Ham news, Niclas Fullkrug will return to the Irons as a new injury update emerges.
