Lacazette to bring undoubted quality: Three strikers West Ham should look to sign in summer

By Marcus Chan

West Ham have managed to mix with the big boys recently and they are not looking to settle for a place in the Europa League.

Despite doing well in the battle for the top four places in the league this season, West Ham are beginning to fall behind the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Moyes’ men currently sit seventh, six points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.

Champions League qualification can still be managed through winning the Europa League, the Hammers are up against French side Lyon in the quarter-finals, with a potential semi-final date with Barcelona if they get through.

Looking ahead to the summer’s transfer window, a striker is for sure high on the agenda for Moyes as the Hammers has been misfiring lately with Michail Antonio failing to find the net in the league since 1 January.

Here are three strikers that West Ham could look to as they plan to bolster their attacking options:

Divock Origi

The Liverpool man is out of contract in the summer and it doesn’t look likely that the Belgian will be offered a new deal at Anfield. TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook told GiveMeSport on 30 January that the Irons were in the running to sign the Belgium international. Origi will bring a wealth of experience and a winning mentality that West Ham are craving, having won the Champions League, Premier League and most recently, the Carabao Cup with Liverpool.

Darwin Nunez

Having tried to sign Nunez in January [Dharmesh Sheth, Sky Sports], West Ham should be back in for the Uruguayan in the summer. Nunez, 22, has scored 26 goals across all competitions this season for Portuguese outfit, Benfica. With age on his side, Nunez could be the star that David Moyes can build a side around.

Alexandre Lacazette

Another player who is out of contract in the summer, Lacazette has looked revitalised since the turn of the year under Mikel Arteta as the Gunners picked up some serious form. Lacazette will bring undoubted quality and experience to the London Stadium. TeamTalk reported on 16 March that the Irons are ready to make an offer to sign the Frenchman.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are open to offers for one of their senior defenders in the summer.
