Konstantinos Mavropanos atrocious as 8/10 incredible – West Ham player ratings vs Aston Villa
West Ham were on the wrong end of a thrilling 3-2 defeat in the Premier League against in-form Aston Villa.
In a ferocious start to the match at the London Stadium, Mateus Fernandes scored the quickest goal of the season inside 29 seconds, slotting his finish past Emi Martinez after dispossessing Ezri Konsa.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men didn’t hold onto their lead for long, though, as an Ollie Watkins header deflected off Konstantinos Mavropanos and flew past Alphonse Areola.
The Premier League released a statement confirming it was a Mavropanos own goal. However, despite this setback, the Hammers continued to look threatening, and it was Jarrod Bowen who restored their lead after diverting Freddie Potts’ strike into the net.
West Ham then conceded quickly in the second half after Morgan Rogers slammed the ball home from close range, before the Englishman rifled home from outside the box with only 10 minutes.

Konstantinos Mavropanos was poor against Aston Villa
West Ham have experienced defensive problems throughout this season, and Mavropanos was exposed against a rampant Villa attack.
Although the Greek international was unfortunate to score an own goal, he should have arguably done better for Rogers’ second half equaliser.
Mavropanos misread the flight of Youri Tielemans’ cross, and when the ball dropped to an unmarked Rogers, there was only ever going to be one outcome.
The former Arsenal man had a shocking afternoon, to say the least, only winning two tackles and losing three of his four aerial duels.
Mateus Fernandes steals the show once more
When West Ham captured Mateus Fernandes from Southampton, they knew he was a player with huge potential, and the 21-year-old is already fulfilling it in claret and blue.
Fernandes was excellent in the 1-1 draw against Brighton, winning an incredible 16 duels, with the Portugal under-21 international demonstrating his threat in the final third.
Not only did he score his second goal of the season, but he was everywhere on the pitch, dictating play with his passing range and driving his team up the pitch.
To become a top player, he arguably just needs to add more goal involvements, something he proved he can do on Sunday afternoon.
