Joe Cole couldn’t be more wrong with his Nuno claim, West Ham’s loss vs Fulham proves it

West Ham United are drifting further away from Premier League safety and Nuno Espirito Santo is struggling to find the solution.

West Ham were beaten 1-0 by Fulham on Saturday afternoon, with Raul Jimenez scoring the only goal of the game with a downward header.

Ollie Scarles was at fault for Jimenez’s late winner, miscuing his clearance and allowing the Cottagers to open the scoring at the London Stadium.

The Hammers remain five points adrift of safety after their third straight defeat, and Nuno is now coming under sack pressure.

Joe Cole gives his thoughts on Nuno at West Ham

Nuno replaced Graham Potter at West Ham earlier this season, and after wins over Burnley and Newcastle United, seemed to be turning the tide at the London Stadium.

However, the Hammers are now winless in their last seven games, picking up just three points in that time, with supporters growing increasingly frustrated.

The former Nottingham Forest boss inherited a dismal squad, but was still expected to get more out of this group of players than he has so far.

Despite Nuno’s shocking start to life in East London, former West Ham winger Joe Cole has urged his old club to stick with the Portuguese manager.

Speaking on TNT Sports before the Fulham defeat, Cole said: “What I would say about West Ham is, having Nuno in there, you wouldn’t want any other manager, barring a Sean Dyche maybe.

“He’s the right man. I worry that the damage might have been set in over the last 18 months, but the hope is Nuno.”

Joe Cole brutally proved wrong during West Ham vs Fulham

Cole’s claim that Nuno is the right man for West Ham was completely shut down by the defeat to Fulham.

The Hammers failed to get going at the London Stadium, and seem to be going backwards under the Portuguese boss.

West Ham fans would much prefer to have David Moyes back in charge to help guide them out of relegation trouble, given the Everton manager’s previous achievements in East London.

The Scot was sacked by West Ham back at the end of the 2023-24 campaign, but has made a mockery of that decision following an impressive start to his reign at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

If the Hammers had the chance to replace Nuno with Moyes right now, then it would be a fairly easy decision.
