Jamie Carragher gets it totally wrong with latest Jarrod Bowen claim
Jarrod Bowen’s chances of making England’s World Cup squad this summer have been dismissed by Jamie Carragher.
Bowen started for England in their last game, a friendly against Albania, in which the Three Lions won 2-0 in Tirana.
The London Stadium star has 20 caps for his country and will be looking to star on the global stage for the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
However, Carragher does not believe that Bowen will make the cut.

What did Jamie Carragher say about Bowen’s England chances?
Bowen faces a battle to make England’s squad for the World Cup, with time running out to convince Thomas Tuchel.
Carragher picked the 26-man squad that he would take, and there was no room for the Hammers ace, with the likes of Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Gordon selected ahead of him.
Speaking on Sky Sports on 26 January, he said: “Jarrod Bowen, who I love, we’ve highlighted him on the show tonight, and Eze, I’m just going to go with those four there.”
Why Carragher is wildly wrong about Bowen
Players should go to the World Cup based on form, as well as their quality shown in the past, and if that is the case, then the ex-Liverpool man is simply wrong.
Bowen has been better than Gordon this season, and therefore should be in Tuchel’s squad ahead of the Newcastle star.
The Irons ace has notched seven goals and two assists in 23 Premier League appearances, whereas Gordon has just two goals and one assist in 18 matches.
The E20 man has created 0.65 chances per game, with Gordon recording an average of 1.58 per game, but the quality at his disposal probably skews that.
| Stat | Bowen | Gordon |
| Goals | 7 | 2 |
| Assists | 2 | 1 |
| Chances created per game | 0.65 | 1.58 |
| Dribbles completed per game | 1.39 | 1.90 |
| Interceptions per game | 0.65 | 0.16 |
Nuno’s star man is electric with the ball at his feet, completing 1.39 dribbles on a per 90 basis, with his Three Lions rival having a figure of 1.90 in that metric, so there is not much difference.
Bowen is willing to help out defensively too, making 0.65 interceptions per match, compared to the Magpies ace’s 0.16.
Essentially Bowen scores and assists more, in a significantly worse team, and also helps out when the team do not have the ball.
Tuchel should ignore Carragher, and pick the 29-year-old, rather than the former Everton man, but whether he does is a different matter entirely.
