How West Ham can beat Man United to John Victor transfer amid £10m update
West Ham have entered the race to sign goalkeeper John Victor from Botafogo.
The Hammers have been chasing a new goalkeeper throughout the summer, with it being viewed as a priority.
This is due to Lukasz Fabianski’s departure from West Ham, combined with Alphonse Areola’s inconsistent form.
As a result, reports have emerged that West Ham have made an offer to sign Victor. However, several other teams are also in the race for the Brazilian, including Manchester United.

West Ham are prepared to pay £10million to sign Victor
Victor has impressed at Botafogo and was part of the squad that reached the FIFA Club World Cup knockout stages.
As a result, according to Alan Nixon (1 August), West Ham are prepared to pay £10million to sign the goalkeeper.
Graham Potter has been checking out the 29-year-old since the Club World Cup, with the goalkeeper also keen on a move to the Premier League.
- West Ham, Galatasaray and Man United all want Victor
- Botafogo are set to demand £10m for the goalkeeper
- Victor has remained in Brazil throughout the majority of his career
Galatasaray and Man United are also interested, but the latter club is yet to move on one of their goalkeepers. This presents a perfect opportunity for West Ham to get the deal done.
If Potter can go all in on Victor, prioritising the deal, they should complete the signing before the Red Devils have time to move on one of their keepers.
This could be West Ham’s best chance of completing the deal, with Man United still holding a significant pull despite their dramatic fall off.

How good is John Victor?
Many West Ham fans would be forgiven for knowing little about Victor ahead of his potential move to the London Stadium.
The goalkeeper has played the majority of his career in Brazil, barring a brief loan move to Real Valladolid.
According to FBref (1 August), the 29-year-old boasts multiple strong stats from the last year, including an extremely high clean sheet percentage.
John Victor stats over the last year | Per 90 minutes |
Goals against | 0.69 |
Save percentage | 81.2% |
Saves percentage on penalty kicks | 25% |
Clean sheet percentage | 48.9% |
Based on this, there is every indication that Victor would be a massive success at West Ham. Hopefully, Potter can now get the deal over the line before Man United look to swoop in.
