How much Callum Wilson is likely to earn each week at West Ham as talks held

West Ham have emerged as a potential candidate to sign Callum Wilson over the last few days.

The striker is a free agent having left Newcastle earlier in the summer, but he seems destined to still be playing Premier League football next term.

West Ham have held an interest in Wilson for several weeks now, and they are keen to offer him a deal to join their ranks in E20.

The Hammers have endured a slow start to the transfer window, but Graham Potter could now be about to gain a fresh attacking option with bags of top-flight experience.

Wilson could earn £75,000-per-week as West Ham in talks with his agent

There have been suggestions that West Ham could be prepared to offer Wilson a weighted contract, centring around the number of appearances he makes and the number of goals he scores.

The Hammers have now made their intentions clear, as they are understood to be in talks with the frontman’s representatives regarding a possible deal, according to Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (23 July, 4:04pm).

The 33-year-old was not on a particularly hefty contract at Newcastle last season by Premier League standards, as he earned a weekly wage of just £46,000, according to estimates from Capology (23 July).

However, he would be likely to ask for a higher figure given his record in the top flight over the years.

Wilson has an 18-goal season to his name in the Premier League, and has also received international honours, so he will surely have designs on securing a better deal than the one he was on in the North East.

By contrast, at West Ham, misfiring striker Niclas Fullkrug is believed to command a wage of £90,000-per-week, while Michail Antonio, whose future remains undecided, is thought to have been on £85,000-per-week.

The ex-Newcastle man’s injury record is certainly a worry, but given the level of pedigree that he possesses, he would surely be well within his rights to request a similar wage to the options already at West Ham.

With that in mind, it would be little surprise for him to demand a wage in the region of £75,000-per-week.

A weighted contract will suit West Ham

West Ham are badly lacking attacking options, but it is surely in their interest to try and secure a weighted contract for Wilson.

The former Bournemouth man is a proven Premier League goalscorer, although at 33 and with his injury record, the Hammers will be desperate to ensure they don’t pay over the odds to bring him in.

A stats-based contract could safeguard them if the move doesn’t work out, but could also see Wilson earn a lucrative amount, providing he can stay fit and contribute effectively.

David Sullivan is not renowned for being a particularly successful negotiator, but he must ensure he remains vigilant on this occasion.
