Guido Rodriguez handed West Ham lifeline as £13m transfer update emerges at Napoli

Guido Rodriguez could be set for a boost to his West Ham career.

The Argentina international came in from the start as West Ham drew 1-1 away to Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday.

Rodriguez appeared to be on his way out of West Ham as his minutes continued to fall, even after the introduction of Nuno Espirito Santo.

That has seen Rodriguez be linked to River Plate already this season, but interest has quietened down with the January window just weeks away.

Rodriguez could now be set for a lifeline at the London Stadium as the winter market comes into view.

There is little positivity surrounding the defensive midfielder after a really difficult period since signing from Real Betis in the summer of 2024.

Julen Lopetegui looked destined to get the best out of the 31-year-old, but the Spaniard left just months into his tenure.

Neither Graham Potter nor Nuno has gotten the best out of Rodriguez, who truly isn’t adapted to Premier League football.

The World Cup winner did come in against Brighton in a clash that could prove to be the start of the rest of his career in East London.

That will be the case if Soungoutou Magassa is to leave West Ham in January after accruing interest from Napoli after just months in E20.

The Frenchman is reportedly available for just £13m to the Italian side this winter, a fee that wouldn’t provide much room for a replacement.

West Ham could lose Magassa for £13m in January

It would come as a surprise if the Hammers were to part ways with the 22-year-old after just nine Premier League appearances to this point.

The man signed from Monaco has struggled at points, but particularly against Manchester United, looked capable of rising to the required level in claret and blue.

Should an acceptable offer come in, it appears that the Irons would be willing to let the defensive midfielder go.

That is unlikely to go down well in East London, especially if Rodriguez is handed the chance to start more frequently.

Even if supporters are unsure, it could prove to be the boost that the Argentine has needed ever since walking in through the doors at Rush Green.
