Guido Rodriguez embarrasses himself again – West Ham United player ratings v Chelsea
Julen Lopetegui will be leaving the London Stadium raging after West Ham lost 3-0 to Chelsea on Saturday (21 September).
A Nicolas Jackson brace in the first half set the tone, capitalising on mistakes from the Hammers, with Cole Palmer sealing all three points early in the second half.
While the Hammers threatened at points during the Premier League clash, Lopetegui’s men were unable to make a breakthrough, ultimately being condemned to their third league defeat of the season.
West Ham Zone rated each player out of 10.
Alphonse Areola – 4
Little the goalkeeper could do to save his team from defeat. Remained calm in possession, which was more that could be said about the defenders in front of him.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5
Sloppy start to the game, being partly at fault for Jackson’s earlier opener after coming out of position, but grew into the game and made several key challenges.
Konstantinos Mavropanos – 2
Absolutely horrendous showing from the Greek centre-back. Will find it difficult to reclaim his spot in the starting XI v Liverpool with Jean-Clair Todibo waiting on the bench.
Max Kilman – 3
Only a slightly better performance than his centre-back partner but difficult to give him any higher a rating after conceding three goals against the Blues at home.
Emerson (Off for Aaron Cresswell 73′) – 4
West Ham were largely pinned back by Chelsea’s wingers – Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke – not allowing Emerson to charge forward and link up in the final third. Did well to keep the latter quiet.
Guido Rodriguez flops in West Ham United loss v Chelsea
Guido Rodriguez (Off for Tomas Soucek 38′) – 1
His worst performance in a Hammers shirt to date, being hooked after just 38 minutes after failing to deal with the speed of play or the strength of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo. Awful.
Edson Alvarez (Off for Carlos Soler 54′) – 3
Also blamed for the opening goal, put in one too many strong challenges and picking up a needless booking after a follow-through on Cole Palmer. Saw an effort fly over the crossbar.
Mohammed Kudus – 6
Never stopped pushing the team forward, causing chaos with the ball at his feet, but ultimately, could not make any major breakthrough despite a couple of efforts at goal.

Lucas Paqueta (Off for Andy Irving 72′) – 5
Pushed the team forward at every opportunity but was lacking the key ball in the final third, missing tackles in the middle of the park, and being hooked to preserve his fitness, most likely.
Crysencio Summerville (Off for Michail Antonio 54′) – 7
Unlucky not to win a penalty for his team, going down in the box under a challenge from Wes Fofana. On another day, the referee would have awarded a spot-kick. A bright first Premier League start for West Ham.
Jarrod Bowen – 4
Had a couple of chances to threaten Chelsea’s goal but was largely invisible for much of the match, seeing more of the ball after Michail Antonio’s entrance in the second half.
Substitutes
Tomas Soucek (On for Rodriguez 38′) – 5
A much better midfield display than Rodriguez, giving the Chelsea team more to think about.
Carlos Soler (On for Alvarez 54′) – 3
Made little impact after coming on. Tried to get involved but was difficult at 3-0 down.
Michail Antonio (On for Summerville 54′) – 5
Had a couple of small chances to hit the back of the net but picked up a stupid yellow card out of frustration.
Andy Irving (On for Paqueta 72′) – N/A
Aaron Cresswell (On for Emerson 73′) – N/A
