Guido Rodriguez can finally leave West Ham as squad replacement lined up

Guido Rodriguez has been a failed signing for West Ham.

Rodriguez joined West Ham on a free transfer from Real Betis in 2024, but has never truly proven his quality at the London Stadium.

The Hammers faithful haven’t been keen on the Argentina international and were hopeful that Rodriguez would leave West Ham in the summer.

West Ham didn’t agree an exit for Rodriguez, and he ended up sticking around, but has been a bit-part figure in East London this season.

It could finally be the end of the road for Rodriguez with the Irons, as the January window looks set to kickstart with a direct alternative.

West Ham want Kobbie Mainoo in January

The World Cup winner may have the experience, but has struggled to acclimatise to Premier League football since joining.

Any alternative would have to bring that knowledge, so West Ham’s interest in Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United makes complete sense.

Ruben Amorim has somewhat frozen out the England international, opting against starting him in a single Premier League game this season.

That has culminated in the 20-year-old seemingly being absent from the United squad as they travel to North London to face Tottenham on Saturday.

Steven Railston reported on Friday that Mainoo hasn’t been seen and appears to have been replaced in the Red Devils’ squad by Jack Fletcher.

That could open the door for a London Stadium switch, something that would spell bad news for Rodriguez and his time in E20.

Rodriguez deserves to leave West Ham

There is no positive to speak of when it comes to the Argentine and his time playing in the Premier League.

Rodriguez has a notable lack of pace, mobility, and athleticism that has hindered his progress in claret and blue over the past 18 months.

All parties would benefit from the defensive midfielder’s exit, even if no fee is involved in the January window.

The saved wages could be put towards Mainoo, in a midfield change that could take the Hammers up and away from the relegation zone.

Man United seemingly want to part ways with the 20-year-old and could prove to be the perfect situation for the Irons to make a change.
