GSB have a chance to excite West Ham fans by signing £30m-rated Nahitan Nandez
West Ham have a chance to excite the fanbase by making a move for Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez this summer.
The £30m-rated [Calcio Mercato] midfielder has gone from strength to strength in recent years and he has stood out as one of the best midfield players in Italy this term.
Because of that, he has attracted interest from West Ham, but we are joined by Leeds, Napoli, Roma and Serie A champions Inter Milan, per Corriere Dello Sport.
It could be difficult to lure Nandez to the London Stadium, but he it is clearly worth trying for given the stature of clubs chasing him.
The main factor likely driving the interest is the fact Nandez is a complete midfielder – there are not many weaknesses in his game.
Per WhoScored, he has made 1.8 tackles per game while also making 1.2 dribbles.
He is very effective on the ball, managing 78% pass accuracy this season and averaging one key pass per game.
The 25-year-old could be an ideal partner for Tomas Soucek or Declan Rice, and would beef up the midfield in those difficult away trips in Europe that we could play next year.
Another advantage to signing Nandez is his ability to adapt to new surroundings and a new league.
He has excelled at Cagliari after joining from Boca Juniors, where he formed a strong relationship with Carlos Tevez.
The former Hammer is a big fan of the Uruguayan, with the pair talking about going on a fishing trip together in a post-match interview in 2019 [Clarin].
Any player who receives an endorsement from Tevez, whether it is on or off the field, gets our backing.
A big-money signing from the board would show we are serious about improving and serious about having a go in Europe this time around, having previously lost in qualifying rounds for the Europa League.
The fanbase needs to know the board is ambitious about making progress, otherwise the positive steps we have made this season will feel like a waste.
Signing Nandez would be the first sign that we are heading in the right direction.
