Flynn Downes flops with 2/10, Kurt Zouma MOTM with 7/10 – West Ham United player ratings vs Manchester United
West Ham turned in a disappointing performance as they were beaten 1-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Hammers made ten changes to their starting lineup and had some good play in the first half through Said Benrahma, but fell behind through a bullet header from Marcus Rashford.
The second half was a more turgid affair, with neither side really having many clear cut chances as the Hammers suffered yet another defeat in the Premier League this season.
The Hammers pushed hard for an equaliser late on, but David De Gea pulled out some top saves to deny them the result in the end.
Here’s how we rated the performance of each West Ham player during the game..
Lukasz Fabianski – 5/10
Made a couple of good saves early on from Ronaldo and Rashford, and could do nothing about the goal that went in. Went off at half-time after looking uncomfortable, but hopefully it’s not too bad.
Thilo Kehrer – 3/10
Really struggled with the pace of Marcus Rashford down the left and Luke Shaw’s overlaps caused him a lot of problems too. Got booked and ultimately was poor.
Craig Dawson – 5/10
Considering he was dealing with Cristiano Ronaldo for 90 minutes he did really well. Had a couple of rash moments in possession, as did most of the team in fairness, but it was a decent performance from him.
Kurt Zouma – 7/10
A really good performance from the French defender who was really strong in the air all night and almost equalised late on with a fine header. Still the Hammers’ best centre-back.
Aaron Cresswell – 4/10
Not a good showing from the veteran, whose final ball from set-pieces was poor all afternoon. He managed to keep Anthony Elanga completely quiet defensively though, but West Ham needed more from him to get something out of this game.
Declan Rice – 6/10
A real midfield masterclass from the skipper, who took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half and tried to drag his teammates with him. For the most part he pocketed Fernandes and Eriksen to prove he’s elite.

Tomas Soucek – 3/10
Another really disappointing showing from the Czech midfielder this season as he just got overran. His legs were gone, his passing was poor and he offered very little in either direction.
Flynn Downes – 2/10
He tried to make things happen, but the occasion was seemingly too much for him. He got swallowed up by the quality on the pitch and was mostly anonymous before getting subbed off.
Said Benrahma – 6/10
The Algerian was the brightest spark in attack without a doubt, but that end product let him down once again as it has so many times in the past and it just wasn’t enough.
Jarrod Bowen – 4/10
Was marked out of the game by Shaw mostly and didn’t really look fit, which would make sense after not training for much of the week. He won’t be happy, but it’s an anomaly from him.
Gianluca Scamacca – 3/10
Not a good showing from the Italian, who probably should have been sent off before he was hooked before the hour mark and replaced by Michail Antonio.
Substitutes
Alphonse Areola – 5/10
Had nothing to do, but didn’t put a foot wrong for the whole second half. The best number two in the league.
Michail Antonio – 5/10
His physical presence was a threat throughout the second half after he replaced Scamacca and was unfortunate that Dalot turned into a salmon to deny him a free header.
Pablo Fornals – N/A
Didn’t really have enough time to affect the game.
