Edson Alvarez should be ashamed after what he’s said to all West Ham United fans
Edson Alvarez should be ashamed after belatedly apologising to West Ham United fans for his red card against Nottingham Forest as it is clear he is not learning.
In yet another blow to Julen Lopetegui’s credentials at the London Stadium, the Hammers fell to a 3-0 away defeat in the East Midlands on Saturday (2 November).
There were few positives to take away from the City Ground as the Irons were forced to defend their own box for a large portion of the game after the Mexico international was sent off.
Two yellow cards within eight first-half minutes saw Peter Bankes hand the 27-year-old his marching orders for the second time this season.
Edson Alvarez issues apology to West Ham fans after Nottingham Forest red card
The defensive midfielder has generally failed to have a positive impact since moving to East London, which has been summed up by his disciplinary record this campaign.
After being sent off against Forest, Alvarez took to Instagram (3 November) to apologise to Hammers supporters.
He said: “Tough day for me, I apologise to my teammates and fans. Falling, learning and getting up.”
This won’t settle well with supporters as it seems pretty clear to most that the ex-Ajax ace isn’t learning and hasn’t come up to speed with English football.
His first yellow card at the City Ground was cynical and could be argued that it was a clever move given the position on the pitch.

There is no defending the second card as the Mexican leapt into a challenge on Anthony Elanga and got nowhere near the ball.
If you’ve already been booked, you just can not make a tackle like that, that is just something basic every footballer should know.
This is why supporters aren’t exactly going to accept “learning” as an excuse; he is making basic errors whenever he plays. Alvarez just has to improve.
