Declan Rice news as former West Ham United captain suffers potential injury following Arsenal move

Former West Ham captain Declan Rice could be facing an injury worry after making his big-money move to Arsenal earlier this summer.

The Daily Telegraph journalist Sam Dean tweeted on 2 August that the England international, who joined the Gunners for a whopping £105million, appeared to be hobbling as he trained with his new teammates.

Dean said the 24-year-old suffered a “nasty whack to the calf” in training last week and suggested that the same issue may be affecting him as Arsenal prepare to play Manchester City in the Community Shield on 6 August.

Although the potential injury to Rice may only be a minor issue, it has to be slightly worrying for all those associated with Arsenal after he just joined the club a few weeks ago.

It clearly is something after Dean took to Twitter to highlight the potential problem, with the midfielder seemingly struggling as he made his way around the pitch.

If it was an issue that is lingering from last week, then you would have thought the Gunners would have been monitoring during this time, so it could be something else that is bugging him.

Either way, with the Community Shield just days away, they will be absolutely desperate to ensure he is fully fit and able to make his competitive debut for the club.

Rice would be gutted to miss out on his first chance to win silverware at the Emirates after lifting his first trophy in West Ham’s Europa Conference League victory over Fiorentina last season.

From a Hammers perspective, there isn’t anyone connected with the club that would deep down really want to see him sidelined through injury.

Although the way the move panned out in the end wasn’t ideal, that was mostly down to the two clubs becoming frustrated with each other after failing to strike a deal for a few weeks, rather than Rice pushing for a move away from East London.

Most West Ham fans will wish our former captain the best after he gave absolutely everything for a number of years while wearing a claret and blue shirt, so there will be many that are hoping this potential injury isn’t anything too serious and he gets a chance to play in the Community Shield.

In other West Ham news, one Man United midfielder appears to be back on the club’s radar.
