Declan Rice and Thomas Soucek show defiant spirit after Newcastle loss

West Ham players likely would have felt gutted after losing to Newcastle 3-2, but Declan Rice and Thomas Soucek showed spirits are still high in a Twitter exchange.

The Irons battled so well to come from behind to make the score 2-2, only to concede once more after dominating long spells with a man down.

Soucek, who was caught laughing with Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka at full-time [Football Daily], shared his thoughts after the match.

On Twitter, he wrote, “I believe that one fall will not put us down. Good work in the second half in [with] 10 players.”

Soucek was clearly proud of how he and his teammates performed even if it did not end in a vital point.

Chelsea now have the advantage over us in the bid for a top-four place, but Soucek and Rice seem determined to put things right.

We play our London rivals next week in what is a massive game, and judging by Rice’s reaction he seems well up for the match – even if he will probably not be playing.

In reaction to his teammate’s tweet, Rice said, “Course not brother. 6 massive games to go. Positivity is key.”

Rice has been brilliant for us on the pitch this season and also from the stands since he has been out injured.

He has taken on the armband when Mark Noble does not play and it is clear to see he is a real leader amongst the squad.

This example proves that point as Rice may not have been in the dressing room after the narrow defeat, but he is still on hand to keep morale high.

Rice clearly believes we have a chance to finish in the top four so there is no reason why we should not share that faith.

We hope his confidence reverberates around the squad and helps the team bounce back with a win against Chelsea next week.
