David Sullivan’s latest West Ham failure there for all to see after new transfer update
David Sullivan is already widely hated by West Ham United fans and his latest mistake will only harm his reputation further.
Sullivan and co-chairman Karren Brady have faced supporter protests this season, with the Hammers faithful urging them to sell the club.
Poor performances on the pitch have only added fuel to the fire, with West Ham sitting 18th in the Premier League, seven points adrift of safety and in real danger of relegation to the Championship.
Nuno Espirito Santo is under huge sack pressure and will be desperate for some defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window.
David Sullivan ignored Charlie Cresswell advice
West Ham were interested in Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell during the summer, but only offered £13million despite the French club asking for £17m.
Needless to say, Sullivan didn’t get the deal over the line, despite the data suggesting that the Hammers should’ve forked out the extra £4m.
According to Claret&Hugh, Cresswell was a target of data analyst Max Hann, who believed he could be an upgrade on current centre-back Max Kilman.
Given that West Ham have just spent £45m to sign Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe, the money was clearly there in the summer, but Sullivan chose not to go ahead with the deal.
Cresswell has again been linked with a move to the London Stadium this month, but no concrete talks have been held, and Toulouse are likely to raise their asking price once more.
Max Kilman highlights David Sullivan error
Given that Cresswell was highlighted as a potential replacement for Kilman, the last thing Sullivan needed was for the West Ham defender to have a bad season.
However, the former Wolves centre-back has been nothing short of dreadful this term, leaving the Hammers owner looking clueless yet again.
Kilman has been consistently slammed by fans for his horrific performances, but Nuno has insisted on keeping the 28-year-old in the starting lineup.
That could be partly down to the fact that the Portuguese manager doesn’t have an adequate replacement in his ranks, which wouldn’t have been an issue if the Cresswell deal had been done in the summer.
West Ham fans will be fuming at Sullivan once again for a transfer mistake which is costing the East London side long-term.
