David Moyes may have dodged West Ham United axe as Gary O’Neil update emerges at Molinuex
West Ham United supporters are still incredibly divided over David Moyes’ future at the London Stadium, and the Europa League defeat to Freiburg wouldn’t have done much to change that.
The Scotsman set up his side to try and bring a clean sheet back from Germany and it came back to bite him as Michael Gregoritsch scored the only goal in the tie to leave the Hammers behind ahead of the return leg.
Several supporters have been vocal in their unhappiness with Moyes’ style of play and criticised the Scotsman for not getting the most out of the Irons’ immense attacking talent, with some fans calling for him to be sacked.
It remains unclear if the West Ham board would be willing to make such a big call and they have repeatedly insisted that they will evaluate the situation at the end of the season, but that hasn’t stopped names being linked with the job.
One name that has been repeatedly mentioned has been Wolves boss Gary O’Neil, and the people in charge at Molineux have been reportedly concerned about a potential approach for the former Irons midfielder.
However, O’Neil slammed the door shut on his potential London Stadium switch in a press conference on Friday (8 March) where he appeared to rule out leaving Molineux.
As quoted by Liam Keen on X (8 March) he said: “I love it here and I’m really happy. I love the relationship with the fans, squad and staff. When the time comes to discuss it, we will.
“I’m not aware of any jobs I’m linked with – and I’m not available!”
Will West Ham sack David Moyes ahead of summer transfer window?
While O’Neil is one of a number of names linked with a move to East London this summer, his decision to suggest he wouldn’t be open to making a change may well help Moyes keep his job beyond the end of the season.

The Scotsman has insisted that he has been offered a new deal to extend his contract, but won’t decide before the end of the current campaign. If the Hammers can’t get their number one targets, like O’Neil, it may see them stick with Moyes.
Hopefully, some clarity will emerge over the West Ham boss’ future sooner rather than later, as supporters are currently being left in limbo over what to expect in the coming months and years.
