Crysencio Summerville already faces the axe after topping abysmal West Ham stat vs Brighton

Crysencio Summerville made his return to action during West Ham’s clash against Brighton in the Premier League.

Summerville has missed the last three matches with a calf strain, including the 1-1 draw against Manchester United, but returned to the starting lineup on Sunday.

The 24-year-old was deployed in attack alongside Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen, with the latter scoring the opener as West Ham drew 1-1 at Brighton.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men looked solid value for a rare three points at the AMEX Stadium, before Georginio Rutter’s stoppage-time equaliser broke their hearts.

Crysencio Summerville missed two big chances vs Brighton

Rutter’s late leveller put a dagger in West Ham’s heart, knowing they had multiple chances to kill off the game, and Summerville was guilty of spurning golden opportunities.

The former Leeds United man missed two big chances, the most of any player on the pitch, and was eventually substituted for Callum Wilson.

2 big chances missed
15/16 passes completed (94%)
2 successful dribbles
2 fouls drawn

Whilst Summerville was wasteful with his final ball, Wilson assisted Bowen for his goal just seconds after entering the pitch.

Perhaps a poor end product can be put down to the Dutchman’s lack of match sharpness, although he has scored just once and assisted four in 32 appearances for the Hammers.

That record suggests he isn’t good enough to be starting for Nuno, and when West Ham host high-flying Aston Villa on Sunday, he could be facing the axe.

West Ham need to sign a winger in January

Truthfully, Nuno is lacking natural wingers in his squad, and has forced him into shoehorning Tomas Soucek into a wide position and Mateus Fernandes on the left flank.

Fernandes proved he’s most effective as a central midfielder after winning a whopping 16 duels against Brighton, the most of any Premier League player this season.

That is why West Ham are eyeing attacking reinforcements in January, and one of those potentially on their radar is Manor Solomon.

Formerly of Leeds, Solomon is excelling in La Liga for Villarreal, having converted 50% of his chances and produced two goal involvements in six matches.

Clearly an upgrade on Summerville, the 26-year-old is one of several wingers who could improve West Ham’s chances of surviving relegation.
