Chelsea set be left red-faced by West Ham United amid Jhon Duran transfer development

West Ham United could beat Chelsea to the signing of Jhon Duran despite the Blues showing interest in the Aston Villa striker since January.

A report from talkSPORT (2 July) suggested that the Colombian is on the Hammers’ “list of summer striker targets”.

The Villans are “open to offers” for the 20-year-old after playing second fiddle to the prolific Ollie Watkins for the whole of last season.

Julen Lopetegui is said to be “keen to add more firepower” to his squad ahead of his first campaign in charge at the London Stadium, with the Irons ready to hijack Chelsea’s pursuit for Duran.

A move for the Villa ace could prove to be what the Hammers need in the transfer window and a deal could leave Chelsea red-faced.

West Ham United in for Jhon Duran ahead of Chelsea

The Blues have been interested in the Villa striker since January, with then-manager Mauricio Pochettino looking to bring the youngster in.

This culminated in the two exchanging a hug post-match at Villa Park after a 2-2 draw between Villa and Chelsea on 27 April.

Duran had been caught liking content relating to the Blues on various social media channels, showing his intent on a move to Stamford Bridge.

A deal had looked to be progressing before Omari Kellyman made the switch, with Ian Maatsen joining Unai Emery’s side.

With a deal being delayed between Villa and Chelsea for the 20-year-old, West Ham could now get to Duran’s signature first in a major blow for the club’s London rivals.

Given how long Chelsea have been tracking the Colombian, it would be frustrating to them and their fans if they weren’t to sign him – and a massive lift for United.

The Villans are clearly looking to sell and cash in on their wantaway striker and a move to the London Stadium could suit all parties while leaving the Blues embarrassed.
