Carragher in dreamworld after what he predicted ahead of West Ham v Brighton

West Ham are far from being a table-rising team in the Premier League despite picking up a well-earned point against Bournemouth on Monday.

Lucas Paqueta was moments away from securing all three points for his side on 16 December, firing home from the penalty spot before Enes Unal clawed back a draw with an outrageous free-kick.

The East London side are now seven points clear of relegation after 16 matches but there are still several aspects of their game to improve upon if they are to break into the top half.

With highflyers Brighton up next, fans will have little belief that Julen Lopetegui can outclass Fabian Hurzeler, even despite the game kicking off at the London Stadium.

Of the last 14 meetings between the two clubs, the Hammers have claimed just one victory, drawing seven while the Seagulls have won the other six.

Despite this, Jamie Carragher still expects the Hammers to secure all three points, winning 2-1 on Saturday 21 December, which will come as a surprise to many [Sky Sports Super 6].

West Ham United to beat Brighton at the London Stadium?

Although Brighton are in a rough run of games right now, their away form is the sixth-best in the division, boasting 11 points from eight matches while Lopetegui’s side have only won three of their eight home games.

Brighton’s away form, mixed with the previous meetings between the two sides, history would suggest that all three points are heading back to the Amex Stadium on Saturday evening.

While this may frustrate a number of fans, the club need to be realistic, and they certainly were when deciding that a defeat to Bournemouth would not have seen Lopetegui sacked due to the odds being stacked against them [Sean Whetstone].

Many will love Carragher’s enthusiasm before the clash at the London Stadium, but more supporters will be wary heading into the game due to their team’s rollercoaster form so far this season.

In other West Ham news, Julen Lopetegui’s January transfer plans are surely already shredded as a new £3.6billion update emerges.
