Burnley winger Dwight McNeil will be a perfect partner for West Ham star Jarrod Bowen

West Ham United have made contact with Burnley over the potential signing of Dwight McNeil in the summer transfer window, according to 90min.

The Hammers have been in the market to sign a winger after the departure of Andriy Yarmolenko who left the club as a free agent.

On the other hand, McNeil’s future at Turf Moor is in serious doubt after the Clarets suffered relegation to the Championship.

The 22-year-old, who is a Burnley academy product, has a contract with his current club till the summer of 2024.

Vital Attacking Option

McNeil will be a signing that might prove to be an extremely important one for the Hammers next season.

In the recently concluded season, the England U21 winger played all 38 games in the Premier League for Burnley. However, he struggled for form under Sean Dyche and only provided one assist in the whole season [Transfermarkt].

Even though McNeil prefers to play on the left-wing, he can occupy the right side of the pitch as well as he is a right-footed player and will form an excellent partnership with Bowen on the left. Furthermore, he can play as a left-sided midfielder to provide shelter to his defenders.

The Burnley winger might well prove to be crucial to the squad depth required by Moyes as West Ham prepare to play in Europe again next season.

The former Manchester United manager knows that he cannot go into four competitions with a depleted attack. Therefore, the signing of McNeil, who has ample amount of experience playing at the highest level, makes total sense.

It could be the start of a deadly partnership with Bowen.

In other West Ham United news, the Irons have been offered the chance to sign this £12.8million goal machine after his club was relegated.
