Areola ‘finished’ at West Ham as ExWHUEmployee drops major transfer news

Alphonse Areola has been a regular for West Ham this season, but his time could be coming to an end this summer.

West Ham will have already turned their attention to the summer transfer window, given the fact they have nothing left to play for this season.

It has been a dull campaign for the Irons, and despite Graham Potter’s appointment, there have been very few positive signs at West Ham.

If that is to change in the new season, recruitment will need to be perfect, and the latest transfer news could spell the end of the road for their French goalkeeper.

West Ham eye deal to sign Championship shot stopper

Areola has barely put a foot wrong for West Ham this season, though it appears as though they are ready to replace him in what could be a summer squad overhaul.

Burnley’s James Trafford has been identified as a potential summer target according to ExWHUEmployee, and given the reputation he has built for himself, he’s unlikely to come to the London stadium to serve as backup.

Trafford has been crucial to Burnley this season.

Given that Trafford was recently called up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, as well as his age and pedigree, the Clarets are undoubtedly going to want a pretty penny for his sale, and it’s not one the Hammers would meet unless he is to become their starting goalkeeper.

Areola is believed to be on around £120,000 per week [Hammers News], and if West Ham can offload him, it would provide them with additional wages to utilise elsewhere.

Graham Potter must be backed this summer

West Ham have looked miles away from being a team capable of competing towards the top end of the Premier League.

If that is to change next season, Graham Potter needs to be backed with players capable of improving his starting 11, while also being suitable for the style of play he wants to adopt.

Trafford’s addition would certainly be a welcome one, though the Hammers will still have a remarkable amount of work to do on the recruitment front to ensure that they have a squad capable of matching their ambitions on the pitch.
