West Ham United confirmed the appointment of Rui Pedro Silva on Monday.

This followed the departure of Paco Jemez, who served as Nuno Espirito Santo's highly popular assistant in the second half of the season.

The Hammers would ultimately drop to the Championship, but the coaching staff did remain popular at the London Stadium after the 2026 turnaround.

Silva arrives having previously worked as Nuno's assistant at five different clubs.

Most recently, he took on a role at Wolves with Rob Edwards, though his departure from West Ham's rivals was confirmed following the appointment of Cesar Peixoto.

As well as potentially weakening a promotion rival, the Irons may have provided exactly what their head coach needs to go on and take the Championship by storm.

West Ham would have had Nuno's past on their mind amid Championship preparation

West Ham's summer has been a slow burner so far, however one deal that's been completed is Mateus Fernandes's £85million move to Tottenham.

Nuno's future at the helm would be confirmed at the end of the season, with the Irons making a big move by doing so.

But, the slow summer has held them back in their preparations for the second tier.

Nuno is hardly the figure to mess with either, having left Nottingham Forest over a recruitment bust-up with Evangelos Marinakis.

Considering this, the Hammers would have been petrified of a similar circumstance, had the planning fell far enough behind schedule to ignite the spark in the rather combustible figure.

Now, the planning really begins, with his trusty assistant arriving to replace Jemez - the man deemed to be the reason behind the uptick in form at the turn of the year by some fans.

West Ham can't let Nuno regret decision, history shows what can happen

What have Nuno and Rui Pedro Silva achieved together?

Following Nuno's journey into management, Silva would join the former Porto goalkeeper at Rio Ave, before moving on to Valencia and Porto.

Successful spells in Spain and Portugal would lead him to a shock move to England in 2017, when he joined Championship side Wolves.

Winning the league with 99 points, the Old Gold would ascend to the Premier League playing a brand of football not seen in the division, before they only improved upon the ascent.

Finishing seventh twice, reaching an FA Cup semi-final and Europa League quarter-final, the pair would leave the club in 2021, before they led Nottingham Forest to Europe just over 12 months ago.

In Nuno, West Ham should see serious long-term value beyond what will hopefully be promotion.

And with the pieces in the place around him, fans can start to fully buy into the project as Wolves fans did nine years ago.
