West Ham United success written in the stars for Vladimir Coufal

West Ham United star Vladimir Coufal believes that his Europa Conference League joy was “written in the stars”, as he told the official club website.

Alongside his compatriot, Tomas Soucek, they tasted European glory with the Hammers in their capital city, in the 2-1 victory over Fiorentina on 07 June.

Their names will go down in West Ham folklore, next to David Moyes, Declan Rice and every man who played his part in the major triumph.

As he prepares to end his season on international duty with Euro 2024 qualifiers over the next few days against Faroe Islands and Montenegro, respectively, Coufal reflected on his journey since the switch to east London in 2020.

“I think it was written in the stars for me and Tomáš from when we moved to West Ham,” he said.

“I don’t know how to describe this journey. It has been magnificent.

“[Prior to the ECL final] when I saw on social media what is happening in the last few days in Prague, in the town square, everywhere was full of West Ham fans, I was so proud. They all deserve it.”

Super summer

All the heroes of Prague deserve to relax and unwind over the next couple of weeks, but especially those like Coufal and Soucek who are on international duty this week.

It is crazy that players are still having to play additional competitive games in the middle of June, but that is the reality just now.

Football sometimes throws up some quirks of fate and that is exactly what happened with the Czech duo as they, alongside every Hammer present, got their night of glory in Prague.

Coufal couldn’t have imagined when he left Slavia Prague, almost three years ago, that he would experience such success with his new club in his homeland but that is how it unfolded.

Regardless of the players’ efforts with their respective international squads this week, it promises to be a super summer of joy for everyone connected with West Ham, with an added sense of optimism ahead of the new season.
