‘Would be wrong’ – talkSPORT pundit makes bold Declan Rice claim with Chelsea interested
Ian Abrahams has claimed that Declan Rice is far too good of a player for West Ham United past this season.
The talkSPORT pundit compared the situation facing David Moyes over the future of his key man as the one he went through at Everton with Wayne Rooney.
Rooney left Goodison Park to join Manchester United and became one of England’s most decorated players in the past century.
Abrahams claimed it would be wrong for the Irons and Moyes to stop Rice from joining a club such as Chelsea in the summer.
“In my opinion, Declan Rice is too good for West Ham,” he told talkSPORT.
“I think it would be very much like when David Moyes sold Wayne Rooney at Everton if he sold Declan Rice, in that I don’t think West Ham fans should hammer him over it.
“I think it would be wrong to hold Rice back. I don’t think you could blame the kid if he wanted to go back to Chelsea.
“But this is the one proviso – if Declan Rice is sold this summer, the money has to be given to David Moyes to go and invest.”
Abrahams’ comments may not be appreciated by Hammers’ fans, but he is spot on to suggest that any money generated needs to be pumped back into the squad.
Losing Rice would leave a massive hole next to Tomas Soucek at the London Stadium, with Mark Noble not his usual self after the lockdown.
The talkSPORT pundit claimed that the England international is worth anything up to £80million and that would allow Moyes to bring in atleast two quality replacements.
