Women's expert fumes at 'outrageous' West Ham United statistic

West Ham United Women’s expert Michelle Irons was left fuming after the Hammers were humiliated 6-2 by Manchester City.

The defeat against the WSL high-flyers means Paul Konchesky’s side are without a win in 2023, with just two points recorded in the new year.

Irons feels it’s an “outrageous” statistic and has been left disappointed with how West Ham’s season has been curtailed.

“From the start West Ham were under pressure with City pressing and moving the ball very well and stretching the play,” Irons exclusively told West Ham Zone.

“City are very good at keeping the ball making their opponents run and chase. Vivienne Asseyi headed wide for the Hammers in the early exchanges. She is a real threat but since the turn of the year, she looks isolated and ineffective.

“West Ham were undone within five mins after a defensive mistake. After Ciy’s first goal, the floodgates opened.

“They looked so sloppy and uninterested and conceded two goals in less than two minutes. Not really much to say from our perspective after such a sucker punch which was expected away at a quality team like this. They pass well, they keep the ball well, they work hard off the ball and take their chances.

“West Ham are a shadow of this, a real disappointment in the second half of the season. Since the new year two points gained with no wins in four months is an outrageous statistic.

“All enthusiasm and excitement thinking we would push on and really charge for that top five positions has withered away. We have a 10-point gap between us and Everton/Villa and it shows.

“Villa and Everton clearly have their tails up and are fighting and scoring for fun whereas West Ham already looked defeated.

“I’m disappointed in this team for the first time in a long time and it’s so frustrating to see other teams develop and thrive in this ever-growing league.”
