Wolves may have free run to sign West Ham defender Craig Dawson
Wolves may now have no more suitors for West Ham ace Craig Dawson as Aston Villa look set to sign Jan Bednarek from Southampton.
According to Express and Star journalist Liam Keen, Wolves have been looking at Dawson and could now be the only club left in the race for him.
This transfer dynamo may finally be completed with the Hammers fan favourite sealing his exit on transfer deadline day.
Via Twitter, Keen wrote, “Moves elsewhere – with Villa getting Jan Bednarek – could leave Wolves with a free run at Craig Dawson. Villa were challenging Wolves for his signature. Plenty of moving parts before the deadline.”
Hope he stays
Dawson emerged as a cult hero last season as he was the Hammers’ defensive rock when players in his position kept getting injured.
After being blamed for errors numerous times in the past, it can be argued that the Englishman had his best spell at the London Stadium over the last six months of the 2021/22 campaign.
However, with the number of centre-backs signed this summer and Angelo Ogbonna close to a return, he has fallen down in the pecking order.
He seems a player who wants to play week in and week out and will be getting that at Wolves and is unlikely to get that at West Ham.
No fan will have any bad blood even if he does end up leaving as they can understand his reasons for it.
He will certainly be a success at Wolves and it will be interesting to see him playing a different style of play under Bruno Lage.
