Wolves chairman Jeff Shi sends message to Premier League over incident v West Ham United
Jeff Shi has made a statement regarding referees in the Premier League after Max Kilman’s goal was ruled out v West Ham United.
Late in the day at Molineux, the home side thought they had secured an equaliser through their captain. After a thorough VAR check, it was ruled out for offside.
Tawanda Chirewa was adjudged to be offside and obstructing the view of Hammers keeper, Lukasz Fabianski. This was met with plenty of frustration from Gary O’Neil.
The decision that went in favour of West Ham has now been spoken out on by chairman, Shi to the official Wolves website.
He said: “The standard and consistency of refereeing, it’s something out of our control. When a goal is scored and not one person inside the stadium questions the validity of that goal, including both sets of players, coaches, fans and even the match officials themselves, it’s time to question whether someone remote disallowing that goal is really what football wants or needs.
“It is our sincere hope that the Premier League and PGMOL recognise the importance of addressing these concerns to uphold the integrity of the competition and demonstrate why the Premier League is regarded as the best in the world.”
Did VAR make the correct decision for West Ham United v Wolves?
There is plenty of opposition towards VAR from every club in the Premier League and every side has been negatively affected by it.
Against Aston Villa, the Hammers fell victim to the longest-ever VAR check when Jarrod Bowen’s late winner was ruled out.
Although David Moyes understood former West Ham man O’Neil’s frustration, it isn’t the first negative decision and won’t be the last.

It must be said that Chiwome was stood in an offside position as Kilman headed the ball goalward so there is no dispute there.
The question is whether or not Fabianski’s view was impaired by the striker. With various angles being inconclusive it became a 50:50 decision.
Arguably if they weren’t sure of the decision then continuing with the on-field decision should have been favoured.
West Ham fans did feel aggrieved by Emerson’s goal being ruled out for a foul. Nelson Semedo went down under limited contact as the Italian headed home.
With that being the case, this stroke of luck may have been justified for the Hammers.
