WHZ View: Moyes must give Benrahma first West Ham start v Aston Villa
David Moyes must hand Said Benrahma his first start when West Ham take on Aston Villa next Monday.
The 25-year-old has been limited to substitute appearances since his move from Brentford and he is yet to have any real impact on the Hammers squad.
On Monday, Moyes has the perfect chance to unleash Benrahma against Aston Villa and it is one he must take.
Not only would it help to integrate Benrahma into the squad but it would also get impatient Hammers fans off of Moyes’ back as they continue to demand their summer signing starts a Premier League game.
Despite only playing 34 minutes of football for the Hammers, Benrahma already has an assist as he provided the killer ball to Tomas Soucek as the Czech international scored the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win against Fulham.
The Algerian international is far too good to be an impact sub, his 17 goals and 9 assists in the Championship last season prove that.
His stats from his two outings so far are very promising and some stats show he can offer more than Pablo Fornals who we suggest may have to make way for Benrahma.
According to Wyscout, 59.3% of Benrahma’s actions as a West Ham player have been successful compared to the 54.9% of Fornal’s actions being successful so far this season.
Of course, the more football you play the more likely you are to make mistakes but this stat certainly shows promise and suggests Benrahma could offer more to the side than Fornals is currently offering.
Benrahma is also boasting a 50% successful dribble rate this season compared to Fornals’ successful dribble rate which is only 33.3%
Benrahma needs starts if he is to thrive at the London Stadium and Monday’s game against Aston Villa presents a slightly easier chance for the Algerian to show his quality with Villa’s defence shipping six goals in their last three games.
