What Scott Parker has said about West Ham amid Graham Potter sack latest

West Ham have been lining up potential replacements should they choose to sack Graham Potter.

Former Hammers midfielder Scott Parker is the latest to be linked with the West Ham job, having guided Burnley to promotion from the Championship last campaign.

The 44-year-old has a history of returning to his former clubs as manager, having started his coaching senior coaching career with Fulham after a spell coaching Tottenham’s youth teams.

With Potter’s future at West Ham up in the air, and the potential for more job security for Parker in East London, he could be tempted to make the switch.

Scott Parker has ‘fond memories’ of West Ham

David Sullivan is being pushed to reappoint Slaven Bilic as the new Hammers manager on a short-term contract until the end of the season.

The Croatian is understood to be open to a return, but Nuno Espirito Santo appears to be the prized candidate for the Irons.

However, with talks stalling, the Hammers appear to be keeping their options open, with former midfielder Parker a potential option.

A move to the London Stadium would mean a return home for the 44-year-old, who has spent 21 years of his footballing career in the capital city.

Speaking in 2020, Parker spoke of his attachment to West Ham.

He said: “I’ve got amazing memories. It’s a fantastic football club where I had four unbelievable seasons. It ended in relegation but that disappointment will not dampen the memories.

“The fanbase is incredible, Upton Park – where I was playing – was a special place, so I’ve got many fond memories.”

West Ham’s move for Scott Parker would make sense

Parker has continued to watch West Ham since he hung up his boots with Fulham in 2017.

The former midfielder has yet to be given the tools to keep his teams in the top flight, and with a team with more quality in West Ham, he can do just that.

Sullivan has so far been targeting candidates who are without a job, so that they don’t have to pay compensation.

West Ham looks to be apart in their valuation of Nuno, so they could look at cheaper options.

It wouldn’t require much compensation to lure Parker away from Burnley, and his attractive style of football would suit what the Hammers are looking for.
