West Ham will not spend £30m on right-sided centre-back in January

West Ham will not spend £30million on signing a right-sided centre-back in January as David Moyes wants someone left footed, per ExWHUemployee.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported that there was a London club that had tabled a £30million bid for Sevilla’s Diego Carlos.

However, on Thursday, Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol ruled out the Hammers being one of the suitors and Ex has now confirmed that the club cannot afford to make that kind of signing this month.

He wrote, “There was a lot of talk that we were the club who also rivalled Newcastle for Diego Carlos, who is Sevilla’s centre back.

“This was a name not given to me at any point and one that I hadn’t ever reported. It was revealed that a London club were keen so people jumped to the conclusion that it was us.

“At this point, we will not pay that much money for a right sided centre back (reported £30m) and a left sided one is the priority.”

Good move

It does not make sense to shell out that kind of money for a player not in one of the priority positions.

Had it been a left-footed centre-back or even a left-back, an argument could be made.

Barring these two positions, the club also need to sign a striker this month so money needs to be saved for that as well.

Carlos’ link was just media speculation and we don’t think the club are in a position to pay that much for any one player.

Three weeks into January and the Hammers are still to close in on a major signing which is a very bad look for the hierarchy.

Things need to be accelerated quickly or it could be devastating for the Hammers.
