West Ham will not have testimonial for Winston Reid

West Ham will reportedly not have a testimonial for Winston Reid despite his 11-year service to the club.

The Hammers announced on Tuesday that they reached an agreement with the 33-year-old to terminate his contract.

Claret & Hugh have reported that the reason for not having his testimonial is because they will have to sell a lot of tickets to break even.

They have also stated that David Moyes did not see him as part of his plans as he lost a considerable amount of pace after his injury and was not likely to play another game for the first team.

Right call

The cost of hosting a testimonial at the London Stadium is near £300,000, which is quite an astronomical fee.

It would mean that the stadium would have to be close to full occupancy for West Ham not to make a loss on it.

This would be hard to achieve as Reid does not have the same kind of association with the faithful as someone like Mark Noble does – the last Irons player to receive a testimonial back in 2016.

Given the fact that Moyes did not rate him means that it’s a good thing the club parted ways with him.

He was unlikely to change the Scotsman’s mind at 33 and was unfortunate to suffer a near career shortening injury.

Hopefully, he finds his feet at another club in England as he certainly has a bit to offer some Championship sides vying for promotion.
