West Ham want to sign Youssouf Fofana amid Nottingham Forest transfer snub
West Ham are still in the race for AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana, according to Fabrice Hawkins.
The RMC Sport journalist reported via Twitter (8 August) that Fofana is subject to interest from Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest, who are prepared to send a written offer to his club.
However, the 24-year-old France international has closed the door on a potential move to The City Ground, with the midfielder still fielding offers from elsewhere.
West Ham maintain an interest in Fofana as they continue to pursue reinforcements following the departures of first-team stars Declan Rice and Gianluca Scamacca.
Cash to splash
After confirming the departures of Rice and Scamacca, which saw the club bring in a handsome sum of money, many supporters might have expected the Hammers to go on a spending spree as they look to build a squad which can compete in both England and Europe.
Although that is yet to happen with incomings proving to be much less frequent than outgoings. In fact, the club are yet to officially announce any signings this summer, although a move for midfielder Edson Alvarez is reportedly set to be announced (BBC Sport, 8 August).

This might decrease the chances of any move for Fofana as they now prioritise defensive recruitments following the signing of a midfielder. However, if interest in him is still there as reported, they should certainly look to act.
The money is there to be spent, and a midfield of Alvarez and Fofana at the London Stadium is a very exciting proposition.
In other West Ham news, the club want to sign a South American World Cup ace.
