West Ham want to sign Schalke defender Malick Thiaw in January

West Ham are interested in signing Schalke’s highly-rated young talent Malick Thiaw in the January window, according to Sport 1.

Several clubs including AC Milan, Napoli and Everton are also interested in signing the 20-year-old centre-back.

According to Milan News, the German club are willing to sell the defender for around £6.8m (8 million Euros) and they expect the deal to conclude before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Show ambition

West Ham are aiming to secure the Champions League spot this season and they must maintain consistency.

There’s still time for them to make some moves and bring in players to bolster the squad.

Not only there’s a danger that Spurs, Arsenal or Manchester United can overtake them, but the Hammers could lose their key players like Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen next summer if they fall short of their target.

Thiaw is a fantastic talent, make no mistake, but the Hammers must bring in players with experience who can make an impact now, someone like Nathaniel Phillips of Liverpool.

The young defender has done extremely well in the second tier of German football, where he has made 20 appearances this season. He is good at tackling and ball clearance, but Moyes should turn his attention elsewhere.

There is also a feeling that the Hammers may not even sign a defender this month with Kurt Zouma set to return after a long injury lay-off.

In other West Ham news, this Hammers-linked star must be sold this month, according to reports.
